Christmas at The Botanical Gardens, Birmingham
This evening I had the pleasure of joining a group of bloggers in Birmingham, to enjoy the Christmas Lights Trail at the city’s Botanical Gardens.
Located in Edgbaston, Birmingham, the Brum Bloggers event was an exciting opportunity to enjoy the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, in all of its festive glamour.
It may not be December yet, but visitors to the Botanical Gardens can enjoy following a well-lit path around the outdoor gardens, a perfect introduction to the festive season.
Visitors can also enjoy fairground rides along the way, including a Victorian carousel and steam boat swing.
From glittering trees, decorated reindeer and colourful lights that dance to the appropriate and much-loved Christmas musical classics, visitors can explore the trail in around 45 minutes.
Along the way, there’s a selection of stalls providing mulled wine, hot chocolate and an array of other hot drinks to keep you warm during the winter weather. Hot food is also on sale, as well as other sweet treats, like smores.
Suitable for visitors of all age groups, the Christmas Lights Trail is Birmingham’s newest Christmas attraction. Tickets are currently on sale via the Botanical Gardens website, with prices starting from £10 for children above the age of 4, £16 per adult.
Wrapping up a British summer in Haslemere, Surrey
This weekend my friend and I took a drive to Haslemere, Surrey for a delicious lunch at The White Horse, before taking a walk along one of the nearby trails.
The weather may not have been great this weekend but fortunately, I had good company to make the most of the dismal rain.
Located on the High Street, the pub is a neighbourly and relaxing place, with a selection of quality food and extensive drinks menu available. We enjoyed a camembert starter, sausage and mash as a main course and hot chocolate, to put some warmth back into our bodies.
After enjoying a delicious and filling meal, we sought advice from the staff about the options for taking a walk. We opted for Longmoor Wood and Swan Barn Farm, a woodland and meadow walk that’s part of the National Trust trail.
The walk is scenic and not too difficult. It’s relatively flat along this route and would be suitable for all abilities.
Haslemere is a quaint and charming market town, with excellent access to the city of London. My friend and I enjoyed taking the unbeaten path as we walked around the area.
For a day trip from nearby cities, it’s an ideal getaway for a refreshing connection to the British countryside.
A summer escape with the family to Oxford Castle unlocked
As part of a summer holiday staycation I visited Oxford Castle Unlocked for a day out with my sister and two nieces, both aged 8. We were keen to make the most of a day in Oxford and this opportunity to explore the history of the castle.
Built in 1071 by Richard d’Orilly, a Norman baron and close ally of William the Conqueror, Oxford Castle has had a constant presence in key historic moments of Oxford’s evolution. Most of the castle was destroyed in the English Civil War and by the 18th century the remaining buildings had become Oxford’s local prison. This later became HM Prison Oxford, which closed in 1996. Kool Runnings Adventure Park, Jamaica
For some light hearted fun in Jamaica, my friend and I had an opportunity to spend a day at the Kool Runnings Adventure Park, Jamaica’s largest and best water park. The waterpark is where you’ll find an abundance of exciting rides that’ll have you gliding down slides, full of thrilling twists and turns.
Visitors can relax on the lazy river or pay homage to the Jamaican Bobsled Team as you navigate through the triple tubes.
There are lots of exciting things to do in the adventure zone, like go karting, laser combat and paint-balling. Visitors can choose from among 10 different water slides, including the thrilling Bobsled water sled, the Green Grotto water shoot and the 40-foot towering Duppy Conqueror.
For something more calming, take a ride on a bamboo raft down the island’s exotic Rio Grande & Martha Brae River. Here, we discovered the surrounding nature by paddling through the wetlands on a kayak, to see the birds and fish that live in the reeds.
The Kool Runnings Adventure Park maps out a hyperactive day of adventure for the whole family.
Kool Runnings Adventure Park is a thrilling waterpark that offers fun for the entire family at the most diverse water park in the Caribbean. Plus it includes some cultural tours for a complete experience!
We had such a fun day at the Kool Runnings Adventure Park. The staff that we met on the day were welcoming and the environment caters well to tourists and locals alike.
Whilst the park is located in Negril, it’s not too far to visit as a day trip from Montego Bay or St Elizabeth, ideal for visitors travelling from either north or south of the island.
