My friends and I arranged a last minute trip to The Gambia, seeking a getaway that would allow us to enjoy a winter sunshine break, with a hotel located close to the beach. Hypolink Village offered exactly what we needed.
I booked a two bedroom apartment to share with my friends and was thrilled upon arrival to find that it included two bathrooms, a balcony to each bedroom and a huge living room with plenty of seating, a TV and dining table. The living room also leads onto an additional balcony. The interior is kitted out to a high standard; after meeting guests at other hotels in The Gambia, it was clear that Hypolink Village brings a new level of quality to Gambia’s hotel industry.
On-site facilities include a swimming pool (opened in December 2018), stunning domed restaurant, indoor and outdoor bars and an outdoor stage used to host local and international artists. Guests can also arrange jet ski hire, moped hire, excursions and airport transfers at an additional fee. WiFi is also provided free of charge across the village.
There’s also a ‘strip’ of shops, bars and restaurants lining the walk from Hypolink Village to Kololi Beach.
Just across the road from Hypolink Village guests can visit Maroun’s supermarket, perfect for stocking your self-catered room. My friends and I made a couple of trips to Maroun’s during our stay to buy lunch (they do amazing, handmade-before-your-eyes sandwiches) and to stock up on snacks and other essentials – a great option if you do decide to take any of the Gambian tour options that are available at Hypolink Village.
Hypolink Village is a true passion project. The owner is Matthew Hypolite, a Brit that fell in love with the Gambian country, people and culture many years ago. As a result Hypolink Village was founded, allowing him to give back to the community through employment in the heart of Kololi.
As one of the first set of guests to stay at Hypolink Village, my friends and I enjoyed seeing staff grow in confidence through their work at Hypolink Village. Every morning we were greeted with a friendly face and ordered breakfast on-site to enjoy alfresco dining at the restaurant in the warmth of the African sun – I recommend ordering the Gambian breakfast.
The team at Hypolink Village made every effort to ensure that we had a comfortable stay, our room was tidied on a daily basis and the staff worked to accommodate our additional requests – moreso than many other hotels that I’ve visited across the world. The Gambian hospitality was fantastic to experience and I’d highly recommend Hypolink Village to other visitors planning a trip to The Gambia, especially if you’re looking for an added value getaway that offers a safe and well-located place to stay.
