On a recent spontaneously planned to to New York, I was invited to join ‘On Location Tours‘ for a trip around Manhattan on their Sex and the City (SATC) tour. I couldn’t wait to join them and learn more about a show and its roots.
Did you know that the average episode of SATC costs $120,000 dollars to rent space in New York alone? That’s before the costs for actors, extras, crew and equipment have been factored in. It doesn’t come cheap at all!

Introductions were made by Lindsay our ‘sexpert’ for the day. As a professional actress and comedienne, Lindsay ensured that we all felt comfortable during the tour which would last for around 3.5 hours. Our driver was Joseph Mets who officially retired 18 years ago but loves his work so much that he just can’t stay away from the road. During his lifetime he has visited every state in America except Florida and Louisiana and Texas – amazing!
A few photos from the tour are shared below.

The Pleasure Chest in West village happens to also be the area where Sarah Jessica Parker lives in real life – perfect for celebrity spotting.

Buddhakan was the location of the pre-wedding dinner of Carrie’s wedding to the infamous Mr.Big. Located on Ninth Avenue in Chelsea, it’s an excellent stop-gap before continuing the tour.

The Meatpacking District of New York is home to Soho House which houses Spice Market on the ground floor. This area has found a new lease of life through the T.V. series which was previously home to a series of meat warehouses. Most recently, it has become a trendy neighbourhood with designer shops and more.

O’Nieals is located on Third Avenue and was chosen as the venue for Adrian’s bar in Sex and the City. However it was renamed for the purpose of the show to “Scout Bar’. The bar was chosen as the crew loved the interior, the ceiling design is unique and captured the classy feel that they wanted.

These are just a few snap-shots of the tour that is available via On Location Tours. I chose to do this on my first full day in New York and was really pleased that I did so. I got the chance to go around many of the areas around Manhattan that I would have wanted to explore anyway. Being able to explore it from a ‘Sex and the City’ viewpoint just made it much more fun!
