A New Years stay at Oceania Paris Porte de Versailles, France

Oceania Paris Porte de Versailles

On a trip to Paris in mid-2012, we had stayed at the Hotel Ariane Montparnasse, a mid-range hotel that we enjoyed. On this occasion for new year, we wanted something a little more comfortable.

We were staying for a slightly longer duration of five days over the new year, so sought accommodation with a pool and gym, yet still in a good location near to the metro. Oh, and we didn’t want to break the bank, particularly difficult with it being the holiday season…. in Paris. Luckily,  the Oceania Paris Porte de Versailles made this very easy.

Located close to Porte de Versailles metro station on line 12 (literally a five minute walk) in south-west Paris, this four star hotel was opened in 2005, aimed at business travellers looking for a high-end hotel in this area of the city. We managed to bag a four night stay here at an affordable rate courtesy of early booking via Hotels.com – a practice that I highly recommend wherever possible. The hotel takes no more than 45 minutes to travel to from Gare du Nord on the metro (including time to buy tickets).

When we first entered the hotel, we had a relatively smooth check-in before heading to our room; relaxation was our main focus after a busy Christmas period with our families and of course my boyfriend’s birthday celebration. Immediately we were struck by the modern feel, the fittings around the room all looked very new and the fully-stocked bathroom in particular struck us with its partially-frosted glass wall creating a very open feel to the otherwise quite small room.

The rooms feature a flat-screen TV, phone, separate WC (a nice touch), in-room safe and wardrobe space, as well as the afore mentioned bathroom which in all honesty, was the best part of the room. Any room that features a waterfall shower will always be a favourite of mine! Check out the photos below of our room:

The rest of the hotel has some great features, from a stunning albeit small jacuzzi and pool area – it’s not a full sized pool but is enough to have a splash around and relax after a day of sightseeing. There are also two steam rooms provided however the mens’ wasn’t working during our stay, therefore the womens’ was open for men to share. On the one occasion that I tried to use the steam room, it was moderately warm at best – disappointing. If that’s a priority for you then be sure to check in out as soon as you arrive for a stay. The hotel also features a small gym – two treadmills, three exercise bikes, a rowing machine and TV. It doesn’t get too busy in there though, so if you’re into exercise then you should be able to get a machine to use.

Finally, whilst our booking didn’t include breakfast (chargeable at 17.50euros each per day), there are a number of boulangeries nearby, so grab a croissant and coffee to set you up for the day if that’s your style. For more information to support your visit, check out my tips below.

Tip 1: The water that is provided in the room is chargeable, however a water and ice dispenser is provided on each floor – take a short walk and make use of that to save yourself some extra cash.

Tip 2: City tax isn’t included in the room rate (at least it wasn’t for our booking via Hotels.com). It’s 1.50euros per person per night, so be sure to save some euros to pay for this at the end of your stay (or you can pay on credit card).

Tip 3: Tea and coffee making facilities are NOT provided in the room as standard. However, you can request these from Reception. This was something that I only realised two days into the trip when I realised how much I missed a hot chocolate before bed :-). Be prepared as the set doesn’t include milk, so you do need to head down to the bar where the staff should be able to give you a cup of milk if you need it.

Have you visited the Oceania Paris or any other hotels within the chain?
