I debated whether to post this simply because, well, I like my little hideaways. But here goes 😉
It’s a Thursday evening in London, the hunt is on for a place to eat, drink and catch up with a friend. We considered a few options before settling upon The Old School Yard, on Long Lane close to London Bridge and Borough underground stations.
First impressions… It’s a little off the beaten track and I did wonder whether we had the right place however the brightly coloured signage left no trace of doubt. This place is true hidden gem in the hustle and bustle of crowded London bar’s, particularly during happy hour with a good sized bar and plenty of seating including an outdoor area.
The school yard theme throughout the bar is impressive. A mix of 1990’s icons such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and graffiti-covered school lockers gave it the authentic touch along with a range of old school music to really take you back a few years. We were in our element to say the least!
Upon entry we were pleased that it was quiet at around 6pm but sure to get busy later – which it did and yet not uncomfortably so. An extensive cocktail menu left us both spoilt for choice but a ‘Mai Tai’ and a ‘ Liquid Libido’ later there was no doubt that this was a great place to be. The service from both James and Ziggy was prompt yet relaxed, a laid back vibe that carried through the whole bar.
During our visit we also opted to order food from the platter menu, a meaty and tasty, freshly cooked option that was perfect for sharing.
This venue is an ideal treat if you’re seeking somewhere a little different. Reasonable prices, friendly service and good music provide the perfect distraction from a busy day in the office. Suited for a quiet drink or group get-together, it’s fair to say that you are sure to be happy with this hot spot. Thanks for a fantastic evening, we are sure to become regular customers! 🙂
