En route to Dubai to visit friends, we decided to stop off for two nights in Amsterdam allowing us a chance to explore parts of a city that neither my partner nor I had visited before.
We decided upon the NH Museum Quarter hotel as it was most suitable for our budget whilst offering the comfort that we were sure that we would need to see us through the remainder of our trip!
Upon arrival in Amsterdam, we had some trouble finding the hotel although this was largely a combination of poor assistance at the airport, poor research before leaving and of course the language barrier. When we eventually arrived, we were pleased to find our room ready and the receptionist very welcoming. He showed a keen interest in our choice of hotel, reasons for visiting and enquired about our interests allowing him to recommend some suitable attractions for us during the two night stay.
We were then shown to our room on the third floor which was not only far more spacious than we had expected, but also housed a large family sized bathroom and double balcony. This was easily one of the largest hotel rooms that I have stayed in and would certainly have been suitable for a longer stay had we decided upon it.
The room itself had all the usual facilities that you would expect for a 4-star hotel – mini fridge, kettle, TV and toiletries in the bathroom. Everything was very clean and we had a great view over the canal and a very comfortable king sized bed.
We didn’t book breakfast with this accommodation as it encouraged us to go out rather than stay indoors. There is plenty of choice nearby to cater for all tastes. It was only upon departure that I realised the hotel also provides free internet usage, with two PC’s in reception and a printer – which was very handy for printing the e-tickets that I had forgotten from home 🙂
Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The staff were courteous and helpful, the location was good, not far from 197 bus stop (airport service 4E), and in walking distance to many interesting locations including of course the Museum Quarter! With the nearby tram stop (literally a 3 minute walk) it is easy to get into Dam Square within a 10-minute journey and of course stop off along the way to take in further sights around Amsterdam.
