In April 2010 I arranged a two-night break to Dublin courtesy of a cheap flight with Ryanair seeking a change of scene from home 🙂
Having decided upon the destination, I was looking for a hotel that would meet my needs by being:
- Relatively close to the main areas itinerary – primarily Temple Bar
- Central enough to view key sights on my itinerary – Guiness Factory and Jamesons Distillery
- Offered a pool AND gym (at the time I was keen to develop my swimming ability!)
- Within reasonable budget to not break the bank during the stay – essential!
After much browsing via a preferred provider, I decided upo the Camden Court Hotel which at around £50 per night offered all the facilities that I needed and was not too far from the main attractions of Dublin.
Upon arrival in Dublin, we were pleased to see that the hotel was very easy to find, located near to Grafton Street. With over 200 rooms, a pool and gym, the hotel is a considerable size yet the staff were friendly, professional and prompt to treat you as though you really matter – which matters!
Not only this, but the room was very clean and well presented, although the view wasn’t much to write home about. The room was spacious and was certainly suitable for our requirements, particularly as we planned to spend a lot of time out and around the city.
The hotel was roughly a fifteen minute stroll to Temple Bar, however if you decided to use a Dublin bike then there is a station for these just across the road from the hotel.
Whilst we didn’t make use of the gym, the pool was great to destress upon our arrival. It is medium sized with a shallow depth (ideal for a non-swimmer like myself) yet pleasant. The changing area was clean and well maintained.
Whilst we didn’t opt for breakfast at the hotel, we did find a fantastic pancake house across the road which served amazing and very well portioned breakfasts which of course included delicious pancakes 🙂
